Who is this Fiddlin' Mike?
Well...
In 1980 I came over from England to visit my brother who lives in Southern California, and heard a strange kind of music called Blue Grass, so went out and bought me a banjo!. After taking a few lessons at the Blue Ridge Pickin' Parlor in Canoga Park and meeting some new friends with similar interests, we started having jams. I soon realised that one banjo is enough in a group, and since we did'nt have a fiddler, hey presto, bought myself a fiddle !. That led me down different paths, and I joined the California State Old Time Fiddlers Assoc., which in turn introduced me to Fiddle Contests. Fiddling is now a serious hobby, and my teachers have included Phil Salazar from Ventura, J'Anna Jacoby from Los Angeles and Dick and Lisa Barrett from Raplje in Montana. Now I live in California City, and have done so since the Christmas of '89/'90.
As of May 1997 I am the Membership Secretary for the California State Old Time Fiddlers Association. If you would like information about joining, feel free to e-mail me...click on Fiddlin' Mike at the bottom of the page.
My fiddling interests are Contest Fiddling (Texas style), Bluegrass and Old Time. I would like to get into Cajun music (I own a Cajun style squeeze box), if I could only find some musicians with the same interest.
